Owner Carol McLaughlin, LCSW Originally from Fairfax, VA, I moved to Richmond in 2005 to pursue my Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Work degrees at Virginia Commonwealth University. I have worked in the mental health field in the Greater Richmond area since 2006. My background includes work in advocacy, program creation and management, hospice care, public schools, community mental health and case management, corrections, elder care and individual and group therapy. In 2018 I left my position as Director of Behavioral Health at Pamunkey Regional Jail to pursue full-time private practice and started Richmond Restorative Therapy. My treatment is based on a strong general Cognitive Behavioral Therapy framework and I am an EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) trained therapist . I am trained in and use facets of Acceptance and Commitment, Cognitive Processing, Prolonged Exposure, Exposure and Response Prevention, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Existential and Motivational Interviewing therapies in my practice with clients. My specialties include working with individuals with mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma and PTSD, substance abuse issues, and those struggling through life transitions. I also enjoy working with individuals looking to find meaning and a sense of connection in their lives. I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional II, and a registered Clinical Supervisor for LCSW Licensure with the VA Board of Social Work. I am also an Usui and Holy Fire Reiki Master and offer Reiki as a self-pay healing modality to clients.
